FACT INVESTIGATION

Fact investigation is an essential tool in legal work from high profile public scandals to simple torts. This course addresses the purposes and methods of fact investigation commonly used by attorneys. Topics include how to choose an investigator, witness interviewing techniques, credibility assessment, internet and database research, and accessing public records. The course will combine practical skills training with instruction in the newly evolving jurisprudence in this area. Students will gain an understanding of the reaches (and limits) of investigations. The course is taught by a private investigator and an attorney, who have worked on cases ranging from death penalty appeals to nationwide race discrimination class actions.
