ENTERTAINMENT LAW FOR LAWYERS AND FILMMAKERS
(LAWF-4140) - 2 UNITS

Effective legal representation of talent requires a deeper understanding of the entire content creation process - from development through
production, distribution, and marketing. Only with this knowledge can a lawyer truly advocate for their client, guiding them to assess both the risks and the rewards of any given situation. Students will learn about the development, production, and distribution of content from both a creative and legal perspective. The topics we intend to cover include: (i) the role of agent, manager, lawyer; (ii) material terms in artist management and talent agency contracts, (iii) the purpose and terms of certain contracts (e.g., certificate of authorship, shopping agreement). Joint class sessions will often include a guest speaker. We also anticipate having assignments where an EMLI student and an
SFTV student work together.
