CHILDREN AND THE LAW
(LAWI-4019) - 2 UNITS

This course surveys the many ways that the law regulates or impacts the lives of youth. It is intended for those who are considering family law (especially related to child welfare proceedings), criminal law (as either a prosecutor or a defense attorney) and those interested in learning about an important topic that intersects with all areas of legal practice, including constitutional, employment and international law.

Students will learn about the rights of children, the child welfare system (through which the state intervenes in the lives of parents and children to ensure minimum levels of care are provided to young people), and the juvenile justice system designed to address youthful wrongdoing.
