PUBLIC INTEREST AND GOVERNMENT FIELD PLACEMENT

The Public Interest and Government Field Placement Course is designed to complement the externship experience and help develop the skills used during the externship. The course will use readings, exercises, class room discussion and assessments to assist in the development of professional identity and lawyering skills. Students will receive on-going feedback on written work . The topics covered will include professionalism in a non-profit or government setting, ethical issues in the different roles of lawyers for government agencies or in legal services, best practices for externs, self-assessment, and work/life balance. Classes meet regularly throughout the semester and are required for all students enrolled in a public interest or government externship. Instructor approval required to enroll; students must be concurrently enrolled in an approved Publlc Interest or Government Field Placement. Students may enroll in a public interest or government externship for up to 6 units.
