THE ASIAN AMERICAN LEGAL EXPERIENCE

This seminar explores the ways the law has shaped the experiences of Asian Americans in the United States. Topics will include the origins and limits of Asian American panethnicity; the history of anti-Asian immigration laws and the relationship between those laws and restrictions on other civil rights; relations between Asian Americans and other racial/ethnic groups; the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and the subsequent reparations movement; current manifestations of anti-Asian violence; intersectionality; and the position of Asian Americans in the legal profession. Grades will be based on a research paper, paper presentation, and class participation.
