MULTISTATE BAR EXAM: SKILLS & STRATEGIES
(LAWJ-8024) - 2 UNITS

This course is designed to provide graduating students with an early start to prepare for the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) and uses best practices and cognitive learning science to promote learning and greater recall of information. The course takes a ''skills first'' approach and students will learn test taking skills on how to manage time, deconstruct MBE questions and practice approaches on how to eliminate incorrect answer choices and ultimately chose the correct answers. In addition to building a foundation for strong multiple choice test taking skills, this course will serve as a refresher on some of the most heavily tested topics previously covered in doctrinal courses tested on the MBE - Civil Procedure, Contracts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts. Students will review substantive law prior to weekly class meetings via on-demand lectures focusing on the most frequently tested topics tested on the MBE; during class and as assigned homework, students will simulate and review over 500 MBE fact-patterns, thereby increasing their level of familiarity with how issues are tested on the exam. Overall, students will be informed and better prepared for the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) as they commence on their bar exam preparation. (Note - this course is not meant to replace a full service bar review course.)
