INTRODUCTION TO IMMIGRATION LAW
(LAWM-1010) - 3 UNITS

Immigration is a complex and dynamic area of legal study and practice. This course will introduce you to the basic concepts and procedures underlying the practice of immigration law in the United States. We will aim both to understand the statutory complexities of the area as well as to place our current laws in their historical, social, and political contexts. In doing so, we will discuss the meaning of U.S. citizenship, the various statuses of entrants including "immigrants," "visitors," and "refugees," the circumstances under which non-citizens can be removed from the U.S. and the constitutional rights of non-citizens.
