BYRNE TRIAL ADVOCACY TEAM
(LAWO-7021) - 3 UNITS

The Byrne Trial Advocacy team is Loyola's nationally ranked competitive mock trial team that participates in a series of regional and national trial advocacy competitions each year. Team members are selected at the end of the spring semester for the following year. Team membership is a year-long commitment with new team members earning 3 units each semester (for a total of 6 for the year). Returning team members earn 2 units each semester (for a total of 4) for their second year on the team.

All team members must participate in a summer boot camp intensive, which includes beginner training in preparation of opening statements, direct and cross examination, closing argument and evidentiary objections. Each semester, team members also attend 3 additional class meetings covering advanced topics in trial advocacy. Team members are assigned each semester to a particular tournament involving either a civil or criminal case, where they will work on case analysis and preparation, drafting of examinations and speeches and research of evidentiary issues.

Students must be able to take Evidence during the first semester they will be on the team (fall semester).
